The Horizons curriculum helps build skills in
Mathematics and Language Arts and is an alternative to the
LIFEPAC curriculum for elementary students. The Horizons lessons
are brightly illustrated to help students maintain focus. Hands-on learning
is included in every lesson through the use of manipulatives suggested in
the teacher’s guide. All material is presented in a “spiral-learning”
format. This is where a few concepts are introduced at a time as the
material is reviewed and previous concepts are reinforced. Whereas
LIFEPACs are better for children who succeed best by mastering one skill at
a time, Horizons is a great choice for students who multi-task well.
Horizons subjects come in two large workbooks and offer the following
courses: Phonics and Reading (grades K-1), Spelling and Vocabulary (grades
1-2), Penmanship (grades 1-4), and Math (grades K-6).
